Time Period Assessor:

Assess how favorable or unfavorable any period will be compared against the past 16 years for 4,000 locations and unlimited custom geographies in 129 countries. Max, Min, Average temperatures, precipitation and snowfall can be plotted for any historical period back to 1992 and any 11-month ahead period by city, region, custom retail geography or country. The time period can be a single day, a weekend, week, weeks, month, season, or year with comparison to the same day in the past or the same comparable day in the retail calendar.

Business Application: If a Spring period like Easter 2009 is going to be the warmest in 10 years, that would be a good period/location to push extra inventory to. Need to summarize for management why sales were up or down more than expected? This tool can assess just how hot/cold, wet/dry or snowy it was back to 1992 to help explain the unusual sales trends. Every custom retail geography or sales territory can be analyzed to explain why one region did well and another did poorly to determine if weather was in part to blame or if some other business issue was the problem. Before blaming the weather to Wall Street, make sure it was indeed cold, wet, and snowy. We have all heard the weather excuse for poor results but if you say sales were off because of the cold weather - double check to make sure it was indeed a cold period. We frequently make assumptions about the weather across the entire business based on where we're at and that is rarely representative of the company wide weather trend.
